Brass candlestick by SkultunaMessingsbruk
AB, Sweden, with circular
base and straight column with sliding candle height adjuster. The base is
decorated with three closely spaced grooves; the column has three pairs of
grooves on the parallel section and two sets either side of a small knop
underneath and a small rim at the top.
.
The candle height is adjusted
by a crudely made hollow piston made of steel secured by a wing screw through
the column slot having a coarse thread of 6.7mm (11/32”) in outside diameter.
The column screws to the base
with a short coarse thread about 11mm (3/8”) dia. Both of the threads initially
appear to be similar to Whitworth specification but have a form that is much
more rounded and a pitch that does not quite match the specification.
Most of the candlestick has
been polished at some time but the underside retains a bright brassed finish.
The underside bears the maker’s marks of ‘SB’ together with a
crown and
‘No
3’, in line.
Base diameter
124mm ( 4 7/8”), Candlestick height 145mm (5¾”).
